Are You Following These Laws of Leadership?

I’ve been reading the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell. This book speaks to me as an entrepreneur and leader of my amazing skin care team! There are nuggets of wisdom that I can apply to being a leader that will help my team continue to succeed and grow. The lessons in this book are those that I  practice in my leadership role. As some of you know, one of my passions in life is to help others live life to its fullest, no matter their age. This book has given me the tools to do this even more efficiently. I want to share a few of the 21 laws that I believe are the reason my team continues to thrive.

The Law of Connection

leadership

Maxwell says, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” My goal is to have a personal relationship with each of my team members before they become part of my team.  I believe listening is a powerful way to connect with people; it shows them you care about their hopes, dreams and burning desires.

The Law of the Picture

leadership

Those who follow are always watching what their leaders do. – John C. Maxwell.

I routinely ask myself, “Is what I’m doing going to result in others achieving success by following my example?” My job as a leader is to model the actions that people can see and follow that lead to success. When my team members have questions about what works, I willingly share what works for me, how I do it, and help them see the potential for themselves.

The Law of the Inner Circle

leadership

Leaders don’t succeed alone! It’s important to surround yourself with others who share your passion, drive, and commitment. It is also important to surround yourself with talented people who excel at different skills than you. I’ve surrounded myself with individuals who inspire me to be a better person and a better leader!

21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership has even more to offer! I encourage you to read it for yourself, become inspired, and become a better leader in whatever you do!

True, it is always important to surround oneself with like-minded people who also believe in the same things and with the same passion. Lately, even though I am not at a leadership level, well in my own little entrpreneur world perhaps, I have discovered that so many people being against change or afraid to do anything more or different, just tires you out.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the quote about how people don’t care how much you know until they know how much they care, but I never realized who said it. I’m so glad to have that little piece of trivia mystery resolved for me! Thank you!

Love Maxwell’s writings! It has been a while since I have read, and love/appreciate your excerpts. When I worked in the “real world”. loved applied his principes. Now as a solopreneur, they are still helpful, as I employ others to help with pieces, so I am still leading.

People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care – a good thing to remember whether in a leadership role or not. If you are in a leadership role, the qualities you mentioned are all important to ensure a productive and harmonious team.

John Maxwell was the keynote speaker this year at our yearly convention and he continues to inspire so many of us. I love the quote, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”, as I see that as true not only in our business, but in our personal lives too. Like you, listening and building relationships with people is always the place to start. Thanks for sharing how much of an impact John Maxwell and his book have had on you and your business, Sheryl.

Love these quotes–they are extremely relevant and accurate! Businesses today must focus on relationships with both their audience and their employees to be successful. As an entrepreneur, I’ve been more mindful of those with whom I surround myself. Thanks for introducing me to John Maxwell.

This looks like a terrific book. I agree that we must go well beyond ‘not hindering others’. The true way to lead is to guide, encourage, and let our followers grow to their own potential

I wasn’t aware of the work of John C. Maxwell, Sheryl. There’s a lot of great quotes here. I especially resonate with the one where “Followers value leaders who add value to them …”. This is important for all of us to remember in the blogging sphere.
